The Problem

Thousands of older adults in Waterloo Region are facing homelessness, and the need for supportive housing is growing faster than ever.

2,371 people are experiencing homelessness in Waterloo Region
630 people are waiting for supportive housing
The number of older adults on the waitlist has risen 120% in just one year

Older adults are now the fastest-growing segment of the housing waitlist. Nearly one in three people waiting for housing is over 50.

60+ years: 329% increase on the waitlist since 2021
55+ years: 700%+ increase since 2021
65+ years: 200% increase since 2022
Older adults are the fastest-growing segment of the waitlist, and demand is not stabilizing — it’s accelerating. Immediate action is needed to ensure safe, supportive housing before the crisis worsens.

Our Modular Supportive Housing Project

SHOW is advancing plans for Waterloo’s first modular supportive housing project designed specifically for older adults. Located at 362 Erb Street, this innovative development will create 10 safe, fully accessible homes with 24/7 supports, giving older adults the stability, dignity, and care they need to age safely and independently.

Modular Advantages

  • Speed: Units are built off-site and installed quickly on-site, reducing construction timelines
  • Quality & Safety: Each home meets high standards, with durable materials and accessibility features designed for older adults
  • Flexibility: Units can be added, moved, or reconfigured as demand changes, ensuring the housing system adapts for the future
  • Cost-Effective: Streamlined construction lowers costs without compromising quality
